About DreamCatchers Foundation

Our Story
Dream-catchers Foundation was founded by George Longwe, a 21-year-old from Nkhatabay, Chendasi, in Tunduma Village. Born into a humble family, George was raised by a single mother who, despite financial struggles, instilled in him the value of resilience and determination.
George began his educational journey in Karonga, where he completed his primary school education under the care of his big mother. He then attended Peak Secondary School in Rumphi from 2017 to 2021. Afterward, he pursued a diploma in Professional Community Development at St. John Paul II Catholic College.
Currently, he is upgrading to a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, specializing in Project Management and Evaluation at DMI-St. John the Baptist University, at the third-year level.

Dreamcatchers Foundation Holds Team Building
Dreamcatchers Foundation Holds Team Building and Reflection Session The Dreamcatchers Foundation team recently came together for a Team Building and Reflection Session focused on strengthening teamwork, improving communication, and reflecting on how we can work more effectively to serve the communities at the heart of our mission. The session provided an opportunity for team members to connect, share ideas, and reflect on the importance of collaboration, leadership, innovation, and community engagement. We were privileged to have Mr. Timothy Mwale, Executive Director of Orphans of Africa Foundation, join us and share valuable insights, contributing to meaningful learning and knowledge sharing. The session also marked an opportunity to celebrate and bid farewell to our Industrial Practical Training (IPTR) students, who successfully completed their placement with Dreamcatchers Foundation. We appreciate their commitment, contribution, and willingness to learn throughout their time with us. Together, we learn. Together, we grow. Together, we create impact. Dreamcatchers Foundation Represented at National Youth Summit
Dreamcatchers Foundation was proudly represented by its Head of Programs, Mr. Wakisa Damiano Mwalwanda, at the 2026 National Youth Summit, held in Lilongwe from Day One to Day Three. Throughout the Summit, Mr. Mwalwanda participated in discussions focused on youth development, leadership, entrepreneurship, economic empowerment, meaningful youth participation, and sustainable development. His participation provided an opportunity for Dreamcatchers Foundation to contribute to national conversations on issues affecting young people and to connect with fellow youth leaders, policymakers, development partners, and other stakeholders. Dreamcatchers Foundation sincerely appreciates Mr. Mwalwanda for representing the organization with commitment and professionalism throughout the Summit. We also extend our appreciation to the National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM) for creating a platform that enables young people to engage in meaningful dialogue and contribute to Malawi’s development.
DAY ONE AT THE 2026 NATIONAL YOUTH SUMMIT
Our Head of Programs, Wakisa Damiano Mwalwanda, is proudly representing Dreamcatchers Foundation at the 2026 National Youth Summit at BICC, Lilongwe. Day One featured insightful discussions on youth development, economic inclusion, leadership, standards, and national development, bringing together young people, policymakers, development partners, and other key stakeholders. We are particularly encouraged by the emphasis on creating opportunities for young people to actively contribute to Malawi’s development. The day also celebrated the resilience and talents of Malawi’s youth through inspiring stories and performances. As the Summit continues under the theme “Accelerating Progress: Reflecting on Impact, Expanding Prospects for Youth Development in Malawi,” we look forward to meaningful conversations and opportunities for action. Empowering Rural Youth
Before we roll out our upcoming youth empowerment projects, we are committed to ensuring that young people in rural communities are not left behind. To create a strong platform for youth participation and ensure that more young people benefit from our upcoming initiatives, we are establishing youth clubs in rural communities where young people can connect, learn, access opportunities, and take part in community development. Today, we are proud to announce the formation of the Matawa Youth Club in rural Msongwe, Mzuzu. This marks another important step in our commitment to reaching young people where they are and creating opportunities that can contribute to their growth, leadership, entrepreneurship, and empowerment. Through these youth clubs, we aim to strengthen youth participation at the community level and create pathways for young people to actively contribute to the development of their communities. Dreamcatchers Foundation Participates in T/A Thula ADC Meeting
Dreamcatchers Foundation participated in the Area Development Committee (ADC) meeting for Traditional Authority (T/A) Thula, reaffirming its commitment to working collaboratively with local stakeholders to address community development challenges. The meeting brought together Area Development Committee members, various traditional leaders, and government representatives to discuss key issues affecting communities and identify practical, sustainable solutions through partnership and community participation. Also in attendance was Ms. Thokozani from the Nkhata Bay District Council Gender Office, who will be working closely with communities under T/A Thula to advance inclusive community development and gender-responsive initiatives. Her involvement reflects the importance of coordinated efforts in promoting the well-being of communities. As part of the visit, the Dreamcatchers Foundation team toured the Digital Lake Hub of Learning, where they witnessed the outstanding work being carried out to equip young people with essential digital and computer skills. The Foundation commends the hub for its dedication to empowering youth with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in today's digital world.
Dreamcatchers Foundation Supports Student Learning Through IPTR Opportunities
At Dreamcatchers Foundation, we believe that empowering young people extends beyond community programs. We are committed to supporting the next generation of professionals by providing Industrial Practical Training and Research (IPTR) opportunities that enable students to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world work environment. Through our internship and IPTR program, students gain practical experience, strengthen their professional skills, and contribute meaningfully to the Foundation's mission of empowering communities and creating opportunities for young people across Malawi. As part of this commitment, we are pleased to host Chrissy Sharom Mkusa, a third-year Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Finance student at DMI St. John the Baptist University, Lilongwe Campus. During her IPTR placement, Chrissy will support the Foundation in areas including financial management, accounting, budgeting, record-keeping, and administrative operations, while gaining valuable hands-on experience in the nonprofit sector.
Dreamcatchers Foundation Strengthens Partnership with Traditional Authority Thula
Nkhata Bay District, Malawi Responding to the growing concern of teenage pregnancies in Nkhata Bay District, Dreamcatchers Foundation today held a strategic engagement meeting with Traditional Authority (T/A) Thula to strengthen collaboration and identify sustainable, community driven solutions to address this challenge. The engagement emphasized the importance of collective action in protecting the wellbeing, education, and future of young people. Discussions focused on promoting education, mentorship, life skills development, youth empowerment, access to economic opportunities, and strengthening partnerships with traditional leaders and community stakeholders. Dreamcatchers Foundation recognizes that teenage pregnancy is not only a health and social concern but also a significant development challenge that affects education, livelihoods, and the long-term progress of communities. Addressing this challenge requires a coordinated approach involving traditional leaders, parents, caregivers, educators, faith leaders, government institutions, civil society organizations, development partners, and community members. Beyond addressing teenage pregnancies, the meeting also explored broader community development opportunities, including advancing education, entrepreneurship, child protection, skills development, and community led initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods and creating sustainable opportunities for young people and vulnerable groups. Through collaboration and strong community partnerships, Dreamcatchers Foundation believes that empowered communities can create lasting solutions and build an environment where every child and young person has the opportunity to learn, grow, and achieve their full potential.
Dreamcatchers Foundation Featured on Unenesko FM's Special Programme
18 July 2026 Dreamcatchers Foundation participated in Unenesko FM's Special Programme, providing an opportunity to showcase the Foundation's work and engage with a wider audience on issues affecting youth, children, and vulnerable communities in Malawi. During the programme, Foundation representatives highlighted the organization's mission, strategic priorities, and ongoing initiatives in youth empowerment, education, leadership development, and community development. The discussion also emphasized the importance of multi-sector collaboration in advancing sustainable and inclusive development. The Foundation expresses its sincere appreciation to Unenesko FM for the invitation and for creating a platform that fosters meaningful dialogue between civil society organizations and the public. Such engagements play an important role in raising awareness, promoting community participation, and strengthening partnerships that drive positive social impact.
Dreamcatchers Foundation Youth Club Hosts TheirWorld Youth Consultation
On 15 July 2026, the Dreamcatchers Foundation Youth Club at Exploits University, Mzuzu Campus, welcomed Linessie Phiri, TheirWorld's Global Youth Ambassador for Education and an ACT for Early Years Youth Champion. During her visit, she facilitated a youth consultation on the future of early childhood education in Malawi, giving students an opportunity to share their ideas and recommendations. The discussion will contribute to a global Youth Vision Statement that reflects the voices of young people from around the world. Dreamcatchers Foundation is proud to have hosted this important engagement, reaffirming its commitment to promoting youth participation in shaping inclusive and quality education.

Dreamcatchers Foundation Participates in the Malawi Global Fund CCM Consultation Meeting
Dreamcatchers Foundation participated in the Malawi Global Fund Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) Consultation Meeting held at Chatonda Lodge, joining community representatives, civil society organizations, and other key stakeholders in shaping priorities for Malawi's next Global Fund funding request. The consultation focused on strengthening responses to HIV, Tuberculosis (TB), Malaria, and Community Systems Strengthening (CSS) while ensuring that community perspectives inform national health priorities.
